On Thursday, March 17, 2022, the Executive Committee of the Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle, Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, endorsed the Think Tank and Nonprofit Foreign Influence Disclosure Act, and applauded Rep. Lance Gooden (R-Texas), for introducing it in Congress.
The Think Tank and Nonprofit Foreign Influence Disclosure Act would require tax-exempt organizations to disclose all contributions and gifts that exceed $50,000, and which were received from foreign governments or foreign political parties. The Act would also require that the annual reports of these organizations disclose the names of the governments and political parties that made the donations, along with the aggregate amounts of contributions and gifts from foreign adversarial nations.
The Think Tank and Nonprofit Foreign Influence Disclosure Act would also require the Treasury Department to release a report on foreign funding and the influence of tax-exempt organizations on the U.S. energy sector, and to issue a report on foreign funding and influence of tax-exempt organizations that directly or indirectly aid terrorist groups.
Dr. Anthony J. Limberakis, National Commander of the Order, stated: “Archons should support this Act, as should everyone who is concerned about honesty, integrity and transparency in government.”
