Dear Brother Archons and Friends of the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate,
The Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate are a group of remarkably accomplished individuals who are leaders in their various fields. We are proud to number among our band of brothers a man who is one of the most insightful and thought-provoking authors on the literary scene today: Archon Dr. George P. Zimmar.
Several years ago, Archon Zimmar published a superbly insightful and marvelously entertaining book, Go With the Fat Cats: A Greek American Youth in Pursuit of Identity and Love, which explores the challenges and anxieties of being a Greek immigrant in America. Now he has outdone even that achievement with his new book, My Salary Retired: The American Dream and the Social Revolution.
My Salary Retired is the true story of the pursuit of the American Dream, and what that really means in practical terms for a dozen Americans from the heartland, as well as Archon Zimmar himself, who are hoping to be able to retire with a firm financial foundation. Archon Zimmar explores the transformative influence of the social and sexual revolution on the lives of ordinary Americans, and the massive and often overlooked impact of the decline of traditional values. With Archon Zimmar’s trademark verve and wit, My Salary Retired also delves deeply into the meaning of life for retired people, and the enduring value of relationships and community. As Archon Zimmar quips, “My salary retired, but I am still working.”
In an exclusive prepublication review, reviewer Christina Nicolau observed: “In My Salary Retired, George Zimmar delivers a brilliant and thought-provoking exploration of the American Dream. As a younger reader navigating my own path toward retirement, I found his insights both fascinating and deeply relevant, particularly his compelling portrayal of a society that has fundamentally changed in ways that no political or social movement can reverse. It’s a powerful perspective on where America has been, where it stands, and where it may be headed.”
Archon Dr. George P. Zimmar, Emeritus Professor of Psychology at Pace University, and has published many articles in peer-referenced journals and edited volumes. He was Director and Publisher at publishing companies that included Rowman and Littlefield and Routledge Press. He holds a doctorate from the University at Buffalo and a post-doctoral fellowship at MIT, and he chaired the Psychology Departments at Grinnell and Briarcliff Colleges.
Archon Dr. Zimmar also served on the Parish Council of the Church of Our Saviour, Rye, New York, for fifty years. He and his beloved wife Doulie Pappas Zimmar are the parents of two adult children, and have five grandchildren. George P. Zimmar, Ph.D. was invested as an Archon on October 23, 2005 and conferred with the offikion Prostatis Ton Grammaton.
