His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros Awards Medal of Saint Paul to Archon George P. Zimmar

At the Divine Liturgy for Christmas Eve 2023 at the Greek Orthodox Church of Our Saviour in Rye, New York, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America honored Archon Dr. George Zimmar, PhD, with the Medal of Saint Paul, the highest commendation of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

Archon Zimmar has served on the Parish Council of the Church of Our Saviour for fully half a century, giving of his time, talent and treasure for fifty consecutive years in various capacities, including two terms as president. He has also served as vice president of the Archdiocesan Council, and was a member of the council for several years. Dr. Zimmar is currently an Advisory Board member of the Orthodox Christian Studies Center at Fordham University.

Following the Divine Liturgy, Father Elias, Archon Zimmar and his wife Doulie Pappas Zimmar, sat together at a special reception for His Eminence. 

Archon Dr. George P. Zimmar holds a doctorate from the University of Buffalo and a postdoctoral fellowship at MIT. He has chaired the psychology departments at Grinnell and Briarcliff Colleges. Presently, he is senior adjunct Professor of Psychology at Pace University. Archon Zimmar is also the author of Go With the Fat Cats: A Greek American Youth in Pursuit of Identity and Love, his compelling story of growing up in 1950’s Chicago as the son of Greek immigrants. He has also written many articles in peer-referenced journals and edited volumes. He was Director and Publisher at publishing companies that included Rowman and Littlefield and Routledge Press. Dr. George Zimmar, Ph.D. was invested as an Archon on October 23, 2005 and conferred with the offikion Prostatis Ton Grammaton.
