2022 Call for New Archons

Dear Regional Commanders and Brother Archons,

As we begin the new year 2022, it is time to commence the process for recommending new Archons, Defenders of the Faith. The deadline for the submission of all documents is March 31.

This communication reviews the actual nomination process.

All Archons are encouraged to identify Orthodox Christian faithful who are anxious and able to join us in our sacred ministry to defend the Mother Church. If you know such a candidate, you should speak with him about our mission, and if you then conclude that the candidate is committed to joining us to protect and promote the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the following is necessary:

The candidate must supply biographical information, and respond to questions asked in a Credentials Form (CF), which is available, online by accessing www.archons.org/candidate-credentials. To complete the CF, it is necessary to identify an Archon who nominates and a second Archon who endorses the candidate, along with their written statements why they are so doing. It is preferable that these statements accompany the CF, but may be submitted separately. The candidate must also identify his parish priest. After completing the above, the candidates should click the SUBMIT button, which sends the CF to the National Office, where it will be reviewed by the Archon Selection Committee. If additional information is required, the candidate will be so notified.

If the nomination is deemed in keeping with the standards for the selection of new Archons, the CF will be sent electronically to the appropriate Regional Commander for his approval and signature. The Regional Commander should then forward the CF to the parish priest for his signature and statement why he is supporting the candidate and, thereafter, to the local hierarch. The Regional Commander should then return to the same web address as above (www.archons.org/candidate-credentials) and click on the “Regional Commander Review” button and complete by March 31. If there is a delay in a response from a hierarch, kindly submit the CF without the hierarch’s signature with an appropriate notation and date that the CF has been presented to the hierarch.

Regional Commanders must thoroughly interview their candidates, including, but not limited to, explaining and outlining the duties expected from an Archon, reminding them that it is a Call to Duty and even though not a requirement, the Exarch’s Appeal “Sponsor A Day” and the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew Foundation should be touched upon, and then the Regional Commander should (a) recommend for investiture enthusiastically, (b) recommend without enthusiasm or (c) defer candidate application at this time, and submit such to the Selection Committee. The participation of Regional Commanders continues to be a vital step in the selection process.

If you have problems accessing the above web site, contact Archon John Mindala at jmindala@goarch.org. For other questions, contact Archon Constantine G. Caras, Esq. at cgcaras@aol.com.

Becoming an Archon is a commitment to the well-being of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, not a reward for past service to a local parish or metropolis.

Please know that the hierarchs are invited to submit candidates on their own.

The Archon Weekend this year begins on Friday, October 21, 2022 at the New York Hilton Midtown Hotel, and the investiture ceremony is at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity on Sunday, October 23, 2022.

During the selection vetting process, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America actively participates in the Selection Committee Meetings and ultimately reviews and blesses all individual candidates prior to their presentation to His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew for his final Patriarchal disposition and approval.

In the Service of the Holy and Great Mother Church of Constantinople,

Anthony J. Limberakis, MD

Archon Aktouarios

National Commander
