Archon Markos Marinakis has requested that we send this notice to everyone about an exciting upcoming event honoring a great friend of our Church and ardent Philhellene, Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey. The Chian Federation will bestow the 3rd Ionian Medal of Honor upon Senator Menendez on May 20, 2023.
Senator Menendez is Chairman of the United States Senate Foreign Relations Committee; a dedicated advocate for the improvement of the relations between the United States, Greece, and Cyprus; and above all, a steadfast defender of the religious freedom of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.
Most recently, Senator Menendez stated on April 20, 2023 that Turkey’s leaders “have to permit the Ecumenical Patriarch to exercise his rights as the religious leader of millions of people around the world.” This was just the latest in the Senator’s long history of advocacy for the spiritual leader of 300 million Orthodox Christians worldwide.
Join the Chian Federation as it honors this most worthy recipient of the Ionian Medal of Honor on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Terrace on the Park, 52-11 111th St., Queens, NY 11638. Black tie preferred. The evening begins with Cocktails at 7PM, followed by Dinner at 8PM. Proceeds will benefit the Chian Federation programs and Scholarship Fund.
The lonian Medal of Honor was established in 1989 to recognize distinguished Philhellenes, and has been awarded to His All-Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew and George P. Livanos, founder of the Chian Federation.
