Archon Patriarchal Properties and Legal Issues Committee to Present Seminar on Ecumenical Patriarchate’s Legal Status

On the Saturday of Bright Week, May 11, 2024 at 12 noon (ET), the Patriarchal Properties and Legal Issues Committee of the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate will present an educational seminar: “The Ecumenical Patriarchate: An Overview of Legal Personality in Türkiye (Turkey) and the Preservation of Greek Community Properties.”

Presenting the seminar will be Archon Paris Asanakis, Founding Partner at Asanakis Fountoulaki & Associates Law Office and counsel to the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Archon Asanakis is an attorney in Greece and has represented the Ecumenical Patriarchate in many important matters. His presentation will focus on the difficulties encountered by the Ecumenical Patriarchate due to the lack of legal personality under Turkish law.

Archon Asanakis will also explain the use of foundations to own and operate properties of religious minorities in Turkey, and especially the Greek Orthodox minority, including the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
