Christians, mostly Roman Catholics, constitute 59% of Mozambique’s population; Muslims comprise 19%. However, the Islamic State (ISIS) has begun to step up operations in the country’s gas-rich northeast, where the Muslim population is largely concentrated.

…A Christian fisherman in Cabo Delgado Province, northern Mozambique, was beheaded by jihadists on July 9. According to a report in the official IS newspaper the terrorists abducted two men, both fishermen. The other man was allowed to go free because he was a Muslim.
