Human and religious freedom rights for the Greek Orthodox minority residing on the islands of Imvros and Tenedos in Turkey will be the topic in an upcoming lecture presented by Paris Asanakis, attorney and chairman of the Imvrian Association of Athens, on February 25, 2010 from 6-8pm. Archon Nikiforos Mathews, Esq., Vice-President of the Pan-Imbrian Benevolent Society, will also be a featured moderator at this lecture, which will be co-sponsored by the Hellenic Lawyers Association.
The lecture, entitled, “Imvros and Tenedos: The Greek Minority, Human Rights and Turkey’s EU Accession Process” will be will be delivered at the Atrium of the Onassis Center in New York. Click here for further detailed information on this important lecture.
The Imvrian Association of Athens was founded in 1945 by Greek Orthodox Imvrian refugees and has been instrumental in assisting the Greek Orthodox minority remaining on Imvros and Tenedos and in increasing awareness about restrictions on religious freedom and the violation of human rights on the islands.
