Funeral of Nicholas J. Bouras, Archon Depoutatos

Archbishop Demetrios of America, Metropolitan Evangelos of New Jersey, Clergy, Beloved Relatives and Friends, and Brother Archons bid farewell to a good and faithful servant

Inspired by the funeral message of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew offered by Archbishop Demetrios of America, Exarch of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, some 60 brother Archons participated in the solemn Orthodox Christian funeral rites of Nicholas J. Bouras, Archon Depoutatos of the Great Church of Christ, which was led by the Archbishop, Metropolitan Evangelos of New Jersey and numerous priests. His beloved relatives and hundreds of friends gathered in the parish he founded, the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Westfield, NJ, in order to bid farewell to an extraordinary Orthodox Christian, philanthropist, industrialist, World War II hero, and devoted son of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. As if to remind the mourners of the hope of eternal life, the morning sun illuminated the massive stained glass icon of the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior in the domed church.

The flagged draped coffin containing the earthly remains of Archon Nicholas was escorted by an honor guard of Archons to his final resting place. Upon the conclusion of Taps offered by the Army Honor Guard, friends and family gathered at the Nicholas and Anna Bouras Cultural Center at the Holy Trinity complex where Archbishop Demetrios, Metropolitan Evangelos, Fr. Peter Delvizis, Niece Susan Tseng, best friend William S. Crane and National Commander Dr. Anthony J. Limberakis offered words of tribute, honor and thanksgiving in memory of Archon Nicholas J. Bouras.

Eternal be his memory.
