Honoring the Ecumenical Patriarchate with the 2025 Gennadius Prize

American School Gala

The Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate are pleased to share that the Gennadius Library Board of Overseers of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens has selected the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople as the recipient of the 2025 Gennadius Prize, the Library’s highest honor. This prestigious award will be presented at the American School’s Annual Gala on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Gotham Hall in New York City.

This distinguished recognition affirms the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s unparalleled contributions to the preservation of Greek learning, Orthodox faith, and the broader Hellenic tradition. It is a powerful testament to the Patriarchate’s sacred mission and enduring role as a spiritual and cultural beacon for the Orthodox Christian world.

The evening will also feature the premiere of a short new film by the American School, Guardians of Hellenism: The Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, which includes a recent interview with His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and beautifully captures the Patriarchate’s legacy and global significance.

As part of Gala Week activities, a special public program will take place on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. at the Cathedral Center (337 E 74th Street, New York, NY). The evening will include a thoughtful discussion on the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s role in preserving and transmitting Hellenism, both spiritually and intellectually. This program is free and open to the public.
