Legal advisor of Ecumenical Patriarchate

Mr. Ktistakis is assistant professor of Human Rights Law in Bogazici University of Istanbul, Turkey, and Democritus University of Thrace, Greece. He is the legal adviser to the Ecumenical Patriarchate. He is a lawyer-senior [partner in Ktistakis & Associates Law Firm. He previously served as legal consultant to the Greek National Commission for Human Rights and the Marangopoulos Foundation for Human Rights.

He is a member of the European Network of Legal Experts in the non-discrimination field. Former memberships included the Executive Board of the EUMC, the Greek Equal Treatment Commission, the National Commission for Human Rights, and the secretary general of the Greek League for Human Rights (NGO). He has more than 35 publications on issues related to immigration law, religious freedom, Islamic law, protection of human rights, and the jurisprudence of the ECHR. He has successfully defended 53 cases before the European Court of Human Rights and one collective complaint before the European Committee of Social Rights.

He earned his LL.B. from Democritus University of Thrace. He holds a D.E.A.  on “The Political and Cultural Construction of Europe” from the Institute of Political Sciences (Strasbourg) and master of “Legal Theory” from the European Academy of Legal Theory (Brussels). He gained his doctorate on “Religious Liberty Under the European Convention of Human Rights” from the University of Athens. His postdoctoral research focused on “The NGOs Before the International Courts” (Democritus University of Thrace).

He is fluent in Greek (mother tongue), English and French.
