“Gunmen Attack Market in Predominantly Christian Community,” International Christian Concern, May 31, 2024:

5/31/2024 Nigeria (International Christian Concern) — As Nigerians celebrated Democracy Day on May 29, gunmen attacked the Maro Junction Market in Maro Ward, Kajuru local government area, Kaduna state. 

While local authorities reported one death and five people injured, an International Christian Concern (ICC) source, other news sources, and locals have reported as many as 12 people were killed and 20 others injured. Mansir Hassan, spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police, said the number of casualties is still under investigation and that authorities are pursuing the attackers. 

“The terrorists’ quest is to decrease the population of Christian communities and render them deserted, isolated, and desolated,” an ICC staffer said. “They stormed the market around 3 p.m. and opened fire at innocent traders who were doing their normal business to make ends meet for themselves and their families.”…
