The Sequence of the Lord’s Passion in the Patriarchal Church at the Phanar
On the afternoon of Holy Thursday, at the All-Holy Patriarchal Church, the Ecumenical Patriarch officiated at the Sequence of the Holy Passion of the Lord.
In accord with tradition, the Ecumenical Patriarch read the first of the twelve Gospel passages, followed by the Chancellor Andreas and the clergy of the Patriarchal Court.
The Patriarchal Church and the entire Patriarchate were enveloped in darkness during the procession of the Crucified, with the emotion of everyone reaching a high point.
It was the first time the Sequence took place without anyone in attendance in the church, as all services are being held behind closed doors, due to anti-pandemic measures for the coronavirus. (Photos by N. Manginas)
