A conference examining the core issues threatening the Mother Church of Constantinople from the perspective of international law was held on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at New York’s Fordham University.

The conference entitled, "Religious Freedom in Turkey: The Case of the Ecumenical Patriarchate," was sponsored by the Institute on Religion, Law and Lawyer’s Work and the Fordham University Orthodox Christian Studies Program.

The featured speakers included Mr. George Demacopoulos, Fordham University associate professor of theology and co-founding director of the Orthodox Christian Studies Program; Mr. Emanuel Demos, general counsel, Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America; and Ruti G. Teitel, New York Law School, Ernst C. Stiefel Professor of Comparative Law, Human Rights Watch, Europe Steering Committee.

His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, National Commander Anthony J. Limberakis, National Council members, and Archons from the NY region attended the symposium.
