“Nicaea Then and Now,” a vital new Archon Symposium, will illuminate the enduring importance and contemporary significance of the First Ecumenical Council, the Council of Nicaea, one of the foremost pillars of our Orthodox Faith.
The discussion will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET, following the Divine Liturgy at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Philadelphia. Speakers will include:
- Archon Anastasios “Tom” Papademetriou, PhD, Professor, Stockton University
- Archon George E. Demacopoulos, PhD, Professor, Fordham University
- Edward Siecienski, PhD, Professor, Stockton University
After a continental breakfast, Archon Dr. Papademetriou will speak on “Witnessing Nicaea: The First Ecumenical Council as Historical Process and Experience.” Archon Dr. Demacopoulos will address the question: “Is there a Nicaean Legacy Without an Empire?” Then Dr. Siecienski will speak on “Nicaea and Ecumenism Today.” A luncheon will follow.
