Archon Harry T. Cavalaris to Receive 2023 Metropolitan’s Choice Award from Metropolis of Atlanta

Archon Harry T. Cavalaris has been chosen as the recipient of the 2023 Metropolitan’s Choice Award of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Atlanta. His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta will bestow this singular honor upon Archon Cavalaris at the Metropolis’ 25th Anniversary Archangel Michael Honors Banquet, which will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 6:00PM ET at the Metropolis Annunciation Cathedral in Atlanta.

His Eminence stated: “It will be my honor and privilege to bestow upon Archon Harry Cavalaris the 2023 Metropolitan’s Choice Award, in grateful recognition of his faithful service to our Holy Orthodox Church, and our Holy and God-protected Metropolis of Atlanta.”

Upon learning of this award, Dr. Anthony J. Limberakis, National Commander of the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, said: “For years now, Archon Harry Cavalaris has been a veritable dynamo of energy, involved in a myriad of organizations and activities to further the cause of our holy Church and oikoumene. In his devotion and dedication, he has provided an example of the model Greek Orthodox Christian for the Metropolis of Atlanta, and for our entire Archdiocese. Axios!”

Archon Cavalaris comes from a family of Archons: he is the son of Archon Thomas Cavalaris and Archondissa Zoe Lucas Cavalaris, and is brother to Archon James Cavalaris. He serves as Regional Commander for the Metropolis of Atlanta. His long life of service to God’s Holy Church has led to his receiving a large number of honors. In 1990, His Eminence Archbishop Iakovos bestowed upon him the Medal of St. Paul on the 10th Anniversary of the St. Photios Shrine in St. Augustine, Florida. He has served on the Council of the Metropolis of Atlanta since 1980, and is a Metropolis of Atlanta Endowment Fund Trustee. He has also served on the parish council of Holy Trinity Cathedral in Charlotte, North Carolina, on the Board of Trustees of the Parish Foundation.

In addition to all that, Archon Cavalaris has been a member of the St. Photios Shrine Foundation since 1979, and served on the Board of Trustees and as Vice-President for fifteen years. In 2011, he received Emeritus Status. From 1998 to 2006, he served on the Board of Trustees of Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology. For the Order of AHEPA, he has served as a Chapter, District and National Officer, as well as National Projects Chairman. Since 2007, Archon Cavalaris has been a part of the North Carolina Museum of Art Friends of Greek Art.

Harry T. Cavalaris was invested as an Archon on March 6, 1993 by His Eminence Archbishop Iakovos of North and South America, of blessed memory, at the Archdiocesan Holy Trinity Cathedral in New York, and conferred with the Offikion Ekdikos.
