With the blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, and in consultation with him, Dr. Anthony J. Limberakis, National Commander of the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, has appointed Archon Demetrios J. (Jim) Ziozis Regional Commander for the Direct Archdiocesan District for Long Island, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island, joining Regional Commanders Nikiforos Mathews, Esq. and Michael P. Neamonitakis.
Archon Ziozis succeeds Archon Inspector John V. Kassimatis, who fell asleep in the Lord on June 14, 2026.
“Archon Ziozis,” said the National Commander, “has been an exceptional Archon since the very moment of his investiture in 2019, and for many years before that, a devoted servant of God and His Holy Church. His entire family, including his beloved wife Vasiliki, is strongly committed to our Holy Orthodox Faith and to Hellenism. Time and time again, with tremendous devotion to Almighty God and His All-Holy Mother, Archon Jim has offered his time, talent and treasure to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.”
“Archon Jim,” Dr. Limberakis continued, “will be an outstanding Regional Commander, and will join Archons Mathews and Neamonitakis in infusing energy and dynamism into the Archons of the Direct Archdiocesan District, in support of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. I am confident that in his labors, he will honor the memory of the late Archon John V. Kassimatis, and continue his selfless efforts on behalf of the Church. Axios!”
“With profound humility and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ,” said Archon Ziozis, “I am honored to accept this appointment, and continue my service to the Holy Center of our Orthodox Faith, the Ecumenical Patriarchate, as a Regional Commander. The title of Regional Commander is not just an honorific. It is a great responsibility, as well as a wonderful opportunity to serve our Holy Mother Church of Constantinople. I am humbled and grateful to God to have been considered worthy to take on this great work.”
Archon Demetrios J. Ziozis and his beloved wife Vasiliki are FOUNDERS of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew Foundation, as well as members of Leadership 100. In March 2025, Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church of Port Washington, New York honored Archon Ziozis with the prestigious Hellenic Heritage award for his dedication and leadership to the parish and community.
Demetrios J. Ziozis was invested as an Archon on October 20, 2019 and conferred with the offikion Eftaxias.
According to the Bylaws of the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Order’s National Commander is to appoint Regional Commanders to serve for a period of one year. Each Regional Commander serves as the representative of the National Council in the region in order to carry out the purposes, objectives and principles of the Archons and promote the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew Foundation.
An Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate is an honoree by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew for his outstanding service to the Church, and a well-known, distinguished, and well-respected leader of the Orthodox Christian community.
