With the blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America and in consultation with His Eminence Metropolitan Sevastianos of Atlanta, Dr. Anthony J. Limberakis, National Commander of the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, has appointed Dr. Terry Sarantou, M.D., FACS, Regional Commander for North and South Carolina, along with Archons Stephanos G. Trakas and Frank Boardman. They succeed Archon Harry T. Cavalaris, who has retired, and has accepted the Commander’s invitation to assume Emeritus status, in recognition of his many years of service.
Dr. Limberakis stated: “Archon Dr. Terry Sarantou is indefatigably dedicated to, among many other avenues of service for God’s Holy Church, the education of our youth. He and his fellow new Regional Commander, Archon Steve Trakas, have given presentations to young people at the St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival and the Hellenic Dance Festival for the Metropolis of Atlanta on the work of the Archons, along with a capsule history of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. He and Archon Trakas, along with Archon Drew Theodore, organized the groundbreaking Religious Freedom Symposium at the University of South Carolina, ‘God Created Us to Live In Harmony (Romans 12:16),’ at which His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America was a featured speaker. With these and other initiatives, Archon Dr. Sarantou has shown the energy, dynamism, and deep love of the Ecumenical Patriarchate that he will bring to his duties as Regional Commander.”
Archon Dr. Sarantou remarked: “It is an immense honor for me to accept this appointment as a Regional Commander for North and South Carolina. It has been my honor to serve our Holy Mother Church as an Archon, and this appointment will allow me to broaden and deepen that service.”
Dr. Sarantou is a retired surgical oncologist, who often has been invited to speak at medical conferences nationally and internationally. He has served on the boards of many academic medical societies, including prominent leadership roles in the American College of Surgeons.
