With the blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America and in consultation with His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco, Dr. Anthony J. Limberakis, National Commander of the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, has appointed Archon Gerry Ranglas Regional Commander for the Southern California region, Metropolis of San Francisco, joining Regional Commanders Theodore D. Konopisos and the Hon. Steven G. Counelis. Archons Paul Sogotis and Isidoros Garifalakis are Regional Commanders for the San Francisco and Pacific Northwest regions respectively of the Metropolis.
“I couldn’t be more pleased and honored to make this appointment,” said Dr. Limberakis. “I had the privilege of getting to know Archon Ranglas and his dynamic wife Jeannie, who currently serves as President of the Metropolis of San Francisco Philoptochos and as Second Vice-President of the National Philoptochos, on pilgrimages we took together to deepen our knowledge of and love for our Holy Orthodox Faith and Ecumenical Patriarchate. Archon Gerry and Jeannie are an amazing team, serving God’s Holy Church and the Hellenic Community wholeheartedly and with an inspiring commitment to passing on the traditions of our Forefathers and Foremothers to our children, grandchildren, and generations to come.”
Archon Ranglas remarked: “This is an immense honor and a solemn commitment. I am profoundly grateful to His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos and National Commander Dr. Limberakis for their confidence in me. In this new role as Regional Commander in Southern California, I look forward to the opportunity to expand my service to our Mother Church of Constantinople in the days ahead.”
Archon Gerry and Jeannie Ranglas are FOUNDERS of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew Foundation and Dominion Donors to the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine at the World Trade Center (Dominion Donors contribute between $1 and $2 million). They stated: “We view the Saint Nicholas National Shrine as a beacon of faith, hope, and love for the Orthodox faith in America.” In addition, Archon Gerry and Jeannie are members of Leadership 100 and benefactors of the Metropolis of San Francisco. Archon Gerry is a member of the Executive Committee for Leadership 100. They are the lead donors of the Gerry and Jeannie Ranglas Ancient Greek History Chair at the University of California, San Diego. Jeannie was mentioned as one of the “Extraordinary Greek People” in Archon Andrew E. Manatos’ book of that name.
Gerry Ranglas was invested as an Archon on March 10, 2002 and conferred with the offikion Depoutatos.
According to the Bylaws of the Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle, Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Order’s National Commander, is to appoint Regional Commanders to serve for a period of one year. Each Regional Commander serves as the representative of the National Council in the region in order to carry out the purposes, objectives and principles of the Order and promote the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew Foundation.
An Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate is an honoree by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew for his outstanding service to the Church, and a well-known, distinguished, and well-respected leader of the Orthodox Christian community.
