Egypt: Extremists attack home of a Christian over false rumors that Christians were building an unlicensed church

Our brothers and sisters of the Coptic Orthodox Christian Church in Egypt are persecuted on a nearly daily basis for their faith.

Not only the Copts, but also our 300,000 Greek Orthodox brothers and sisters in Egypt suffer sporadic persecution, discrimination, and harassment, and as we see so often, frequently Egyptian officials do little or nothing to alleviate their plight.

“Updates on the Persecuted Church – October 17, 2023,” Barnabas Fund, October 17, 2023:

Extremists in Abu-Qurqas, Minya, Upper Egypt, attacked the home of a Christian, Emad Wagih Emad, as a result of false rumors that the Christian community were building an unlicensed church. Local Christians have applied for a license for a new church. Separately, building work was taking place on a new house. The attackers cut off supplies of electricity to the village and set fire to Emad’s home….
