On Thursday, April 25, the head of the main opposition party of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the President of New Democracy, attended the service of the Holy Passion of Christ in the Patriarchal Church.
Mr. Mitsotakis, accompanied by the Consul General of Greece in the city, Georgia Sultanopoulou, along with his colleagues, worshiped in the Patriarchal Church and subsequently was received by the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. During their private meeting, they discussed topical issues.
His All-Holiness thanked the President of New Democracy for his undiminished interest in the issues of the Ecumenical Throne, the Greek people of Istanbul, Imbros and Tenedos, and the Orthodox faithful in Turkey. Mr. Mitsotakis, referring to his last visit to the birthplace of the Patriarch, Imbros, said that it was a special moment for him and that he had the best memories. (Photo by N. Manginas)
